As one of earliest foreign car brands stepping into China's market, Volkswagen had promoted the Santana and the Jetta in China as early as the early 1990s through the channels of SAIC Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen respectively. Those two models are extremely significant to China’s auto market not only because they made a huge amount of Chinese consumers fulfill their dreams to own a car, but also enlightened people on the cognition over the sedan.
Before the old Jetta completely leaves the market, Volkswagen has prepared the plan to pass the transition. On February 26, Volkswagen officially unveiled its thirteenth sub-brand “JETTA” in Wolfsburg, Germany.
On March 22, FAW Volkswagen launched the JETTA brand in Chengdu as its third sub-brand paralleled with Volkswagen and Audi, while is positioned below the other two brands. Meanwhile, the automaker offered the first glimpse of three new JETTA-branded models—the VA3 sedan, the VS5 SUV and the VS7 SUV. In other words, the Jetta would appear in the market as an all-new brand after the old model is pulled out.
Designed by a team from Volkswagen's German headquarters, the JETTA vehicles are manufactured at FAW Volkswagen's plant in Chengdu. The MQB platform-based VS5, positioned as an A-segment SUV model, will hit the market first in September this year.
