Great Wall Motor Company Limited (GWM) struck a strategic cooperation agreement with Intel, a global leading semiconductor maker, during the Auto Shanghai 2019 to co-boost innovation development of automobile intelligence.
Both parties are ready to conduct cooperation in such areas as intelligent cockpit and smart traffic and pave the way for autonomous driving development. Powered by Intel's Apollo Lake SoC (system on chip) solution, GWM's premium SUV brand WEY is expected to be the world's first model that is outfitted with Android 8.0 O-MR1 version-based vehicle-mounted intelligent terminal.
“The collaboration with Intel will make GWM integrate innovation with technology better, thus promoting the development of automobile intelligence,” said Guo Songyan, deputy manager of GWM Technology Center.
Intel is strengthening its offensive into automobile and smart traffic domains. It offered an automotive grade process specifically to address in-vehicle experience called the Intel® Atom™ processor A3900 series. With a powerful computing ability, the processor is available for the in-car infotainment system/cockpit, digital instrument, rear-seat entertainment system as well as ADAS.
Intel disclosed that quite a few automakers in North America, Europe and Asia, such as BMW and Tesla, have mass produced models equipped with Apollo Lake-based next-generation entertainment and instrument system. In China, over 5 OEMs will mass manufacture new models carrying the Apollo Lake solution in 2019 and 2020.
