Jean Mayer, who rose through the ranks of Ford Motor Co. to become a global purchasing executive, died on August 5 She was 61.
Mayer, one of Automotive News' 100 women leaders in the automotive industry in North America in 2000 and 2005, started his racing career as a buyer in the electrical and electronics division of Ford in 1977. She held various management positions in operations purchase of automaker and became executive director of Asia-Pacific in 2004 purchasing.
After his 30-year career at Ford, Mayer held executive positions in the financial services firm TIAA-CREF, Bombardier Aerospace and turbine company Ogin Inc.
