FAW-Toyota officially put the second phase of its TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) plant into construction on March 22 with the annual car capacity increased to 220,000 units from 100,000 units, according to local media outlets.

With a yearly capacity of 100,000 vehicles, the first phase of the TNGA plant has output the IZOA small-sized SUV and the Avalon, which formally rolled off the production line on March 22 as well. According to the planning, two TNGA-based new models, the all-new Corolla and the fifth-generation RAV4 will be introduced by FAW-Toyota in 2019.
As one of hotter-selling sedan models in China, the Corolla is a regular for the top 10 sedan model list by monthly wholesale volume. According to the data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), the wholesale volume of the Corolla in January and February was 37,711 units and 19,191 units, ranking third and fifth respectively among all sedan models.
The all-new Corolla made its debut at the Auto Guangzhou last year and will go on sale in third quarter of 2019. It will be outfitted with a 12.1-inch display in the center console for the first time and be assisted with the “Toyota Safety Sense” active safety technology.
The all-new RAV4 is set to hit the market this year in the fourth quarter. Influenced by the Toyota FT-AC Concept, the new model will boast a masculine exterior design with multi-spoke rims. Drivers can find a three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and a floating display in the center console. Besides, the new vehicle will be offered in three power variants, namely, traditional combustion engine-powered, HEV and PHEV versions.
