Huawei has field two trademarks for “Huawei Hongmeng” with China's Trademark Office of National Intellectual Property Administration, according to a record registered on the authority's website. This is in all likelihood the “Plan B” operating system (OS) that has been previously spoken about by Huawei.
One of the trademarks is registered for OS program, computer operating program, graphics accelerator and the computer program for file management. The other one includes such services as computer software design, SaaS (Software as a Service) as well as offering computer technologies and programming information via networks.
It is reported that Huawei had planned its self-owned OS as early as 2012 with an alternative name “Hongmeng”. In Chinese creation myths, “Hongmeng” is a metaphor for the "primordial world, primeval chaos", suggesting that Huawei expects the OS to open up a new field for itself.
The eye-catching OS is said to be developed by the Euler Laboratory, Huawei’s own operating system research and development center under the umbrella of Huawei's 2012 Lab. This is the company's overall research organization with many world renowned scientist or mathematician named mysterious Labs, include Shannon Labs, Gaussian Laboratory, Sheard Laboratory, Turing Labs, Euler Laboratory, and so on.
Huawei will reportedly launch its own operating system (OS) which would be capable of running Android apps and all Web apps natively, and it would work on smartphones, computers, tablets, televisions, automobiles and wearable as well, according to recent reports.
Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer business, revealed to media outlets that Huawei's home grown OS is set to hit the market as early as this fall.
Prior to the latest confirmation, Yu had disclosed that the company had developed its own OS as the “Plan B” in case someday it won't be given the access to Google's Android and Microsoft's Windows.
Most operating systems offered by China's mobile phone producers, such as Huawei's EMUI and Xiaomi's MIUI, are all based on the underlying Android system. Now, the landscape is expected to be broken with Huawei's home grown OS coming out.
