FAW-Volkswagen (FAW-VW) and German premium carmaker Audi recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to imbue Audi-branded models produced by the Sino-German joint venture with more genes of Audi Sport.
Based on the newly-formed strategic cooperation, the auto parts of Audi's sports cars will be locally-produced by FAW-VW at an early stage, so as to provide China-built models with more optional knock down knits.
China's premium auto market is undergoing a significant transition as consumers are becoming increasingly younger. Under this tendency, FAW-VW initiated the “Audi Sport” strategy to meet the demands of more personalized design and services, and compete head-on with fierce rivals by endowing the homegrown models with more Audi's sports DNA.
In fact, both parties have held seminars and surveyed the premises about the feasibility for conducting collaboration since 2018, and came to an agreement in November last year. Moreover, they also talked with dealers of Audi Sport models and other rivals' products, and finally formulated two schemes for short-term and long-term plans respectively.
According to the long-term scheme, such elements as the body color of the Audi R8 and the wheel rims of Audi sports cars will be introduced in FAW-VW's locally-produced models. Besides, both parties are ready to design a unique logo, and particularly develop shadow-casting lanterns and interior trims for China-built models. In the future, vehicles will be produced and sold in limited run.
