The employment contract proposed four years between Fiat and Chrysler Automobiles NV UAW met strong opposition from union members rank and file in the prompt ratification vote.

The final results of voting in American UAW Local 37 union headquarters is not expected until the middle of next week, and the contract could still win enough support from 40,000 workers represented by the UAW Caterpillar 320D injector valve Chrysler Fiat to take effect.

But the pact, which would reduce but not close a wage gap between new hires and veteran workers has run into problems in some large plants of Fiat Chrysler.

About 77 percent of production workers voted "no" to a UAW local in Kokomo, Ind., Which has more than 5,000 workers, the Detroit Free Press reported Saturday. Local union representatives could not be reached for comment.
