Volkswagen Group will not reduce a planned disposal of 6.7 million euros (7.1 billion) for the costs of recalling the diesel vehicles, although technical solutions for the affected vehicles are likely to be less complex than initially thought.
In September, Volkswagen admitted manipulating the software in some diesel vehicles to deceive emission testing.
The 2.0-liter diesel only need a software update, which VW estimates will require about 30 minutes.
VW said the recall of the affected vehicles in Europe starting in January and is expected to need a year to complete work on the vehicles.
The automaker also said today that it expects repairs to the engines in compliance with emission targets ", without adverse effects on engine performance, fuel consumption and performance."
Technical solutions for vehicles 1.2 liters will be presented later this month, Mueller said.
VW faces a scandal on three fronts: the software installed to trap diesel about 11 million vehicles around the world; scores irregular carbon dioxide 800,000 vehicles; and questionable software on 85,000 large diesel engines run on the last probe by US regulators.
