FCA recalls 66,819 older pickups for clutch problem after 1 fatality reported

FCA United States, the former Chrysler Group said Monday it will recall nearly 67,000 older models equipped with issues related to the possible transmission clutch hand trucks worldwide have died.

FCA, Fiat Chrysler is recalling about 66,819 units pill 2006-07 model year after engineers found the clutch interlock switch can be equipped with a steel spring wire unlike in previous devices, the company said.

Spare cable break, causing the vehicle can not be started, or in rare cases, can cause involuntary movements, when the ignition key is turned on, the company said.

FCA said it knew of the recall-related deaths caused by the accident. In May, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation after the death.

An estimated 54,558 trucks in the United States, 4356 in Canada, 7648 in Mexico and 257 outside North America, FCA said.
