WM Motor announced via its WeChat account that 2,175 customers bought insurance for its first and only all-electric SUV EX5, gaining the championship among Chinese-startup-made models by Aug. insurance volume.
For the first eight months, the volume of the insured EX5 BEVs totaled 11,312 units, a rather milestone number for the startup.
Embodying WM Motor's pursuit of the highest safety rating in every aspect of its vehicles, the WM EX5 was firstly handed over to consumers in September, 2018.
On April 12, the startup officially launched the new EX5—the EX5 2.0 Smart Mobility, which was offered in four trim levels and priced between RMB129,800 and RMB209,800 after subsidy. Before long, the EX5 Pro hit the market at the 2019 Auto Show. Regarded as a higher-level EX5, the Pro boasted a combined range of 460km with a post-subsidy price of RMB 239,800.
The company is quite frequent in rolling out new car versions. In early September, at the Chengdu Motor Show 2019, WM Motor showcased the EX5 520 that features a longer NEDC-rated range of 520km. Actually, the “520” had gone on sale a month earlier as a replacement of the aforesaid “2.0 Smart Mobility”.
WM Motor previously revealed the project of the “7-Series” medium sedan, which would probably be managed by WM Motor’s Chief Growth Officer, a newly-added post firstly mentioned in an internal e-mail several days ago.
The concept of the new sedan would be unveiled at the Auto China 2020 in Beijing and its mass-produced version was scheduled to hit the market in the first half of 2021, said the company.
The new “7-Series” sedan will feature a NEDC-rated range of over 700km or exceeding 600km based on WLTP standard, according to WM Motor. The vehicle can be charged to 80% of its battery capacity within 30 minutes using a fast-charging mode. The battery pack will be fitted with an advance thermal management system to ensure the good electric discharge efficiency and the battery safety.
