According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), China’s passenger vehicle (PV) retail sales reached 1,566,986 units in July, up by 5.5% year on year, while down by 7.1% month on month. For the first seven months, the national PV retail sales aggregated 12,538,946 units, edging up 2.7% from a year ago, which was 1.3 percentage points lower than that of the previous month (the “PV” mentioned here refers to car, SUV and MPV locally produced in China).
Last month, China's PV wholesale volume totaled 1,572,749 units, not only falling 5.3% from a year earlier, but also evidently dropping 14.3% versus the performance in June. As to the performance of each segment, the wholesale volume of the sedan edged down 0.7% year on year to 821,316 units, declining 14.8% month on month as well. Meanwhile, the SUV segment failed to obtain a satisfactory performance in July, with the wholesale volume shrinking 7.6% over a year ago and 13.4% over a month ago to 645,527 units. In addition, the wholesale volume of the MPV only reached 105,906 last month, suffering double-digit decline compared with the year-ago period (21.7%) and the previous month (15.6%).
Among the top 10 automakers by wholesale volume in July, the first six places remained the same as the previous month, while only FAW-Volkswagen achieved a sales growth from a month ago. Compared with the performance in June, FAW-Toyota moved three places to the seventh with 67,187 vehicles delivered, followed by GAC Honda and Changan Automobile, which had no ranking changes. Moreover, GAC Toyota entered into the top 10 list for the first time so far this year, ranking 10th.
